B. Tech Mechanical

Objective:

Brief History of The Discipline:
Mechanical engineering is a subset of general engineering. Engineers use science and mathematical principles to solve technical problems. Since they often create new products to solve these problems, they are in high demand. Engineers are essentially inventors. By dreaming up ideas and turning them into a reality they push technology to its limits.

Mechanical engineers are specialized engineers who work with mechanical devices. These may include elevators, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, robots, and electric generators. Mechanical engineers design tools used in other engineering disciplines. As you can imagine, mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering specialities.

Mechanical Engineering is an engineering discipline that involves the application of principles of physics for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It requires a solid understanding of key concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics and energy. Mechanical engineers use these principles and others in the design and analysis of automobiles, aircraft, heating and cooling systems, manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, medical devices and more.
Present Status at National and International Level:
In India the growth of mechanical engineering is fast as the automobile, chemical, textile and other industries are upcoming and expanding at reasonably fast rate. At present all the branches of engineering are becoming inter disciplinary the mechanical engineering is not exception to this and has become multi-disciplinary in its applications and use. The hybrid cars, fuel cells, robot’s etc are the examples where the mechanical as and other engineering disciplines have come together.
Placement Opportunities:
The graduates from mechanical engineering have demand in the field of design, development, production, research in mechanical engineering and production engineering. Besides this now a days mechanical engineering students has tremendous growth and demand in Information technology, software development in banking field, mechanical design and analysis software’s. Mechanical engineering is practically needed in every walk of life. Electronics, electrical, civil, medical field also needs mechanical engineers. It is vitally important for defense and power sector also.
Change in Technology In Last Five Years:
The technology is changing continuously, in the mechanical engineering field there is tremendous change. The fuel injection system MPFI, Hybrid cars, Composite materials, solar applications, and Shape memory alloys have come up and utilized on large scale.

Upcoming Technology:
Classical mechanical engineering principles will remain essential for the development of new technologies in, e.g., the life sciences and micro-scale. Evolutionary changes in the more established areas of mechanical engineering are also vitally important for sustaining the vitality of the profession. These changes are intimately linked in importance to mechanical engineering’s contributions to the development of new technologies.

The mechanical engineering profession is changing from “The branch of engineering that encompasses the generation and application of heat and mechanical power and the production, design and use of machines and tools” to -“ One that addresses societal concerns through analysis, design, and manufacture of systems, at all size-scales… These changes address micro-and nano-scale devices and systems, advances in bio systems, information technologies, and environmental issues.”
Effect and Use to The Society:
Definitely the mechanical engineering is helpful and for the betterment of the society. Low cost machinery and equipments can be made available. Also all these high tech equipments and gadgets are environment friendly. The advances and research in the field of mechanical engineering is going to affect the life style as well as living standards.
Future Scope:
The mechanical engineering profession is changing from - “The branch of engineering that encompasses the generation and application of heat and mechanical power and the production, design and use of machines and tools” to “One that addresses societal concerns through analysis, design, and manufacture of systems, at all size-scales… These changes address micro-and nano-scale devices and systems, advances in bio systems, information technologies, and environmental issues.”
