About Pune
Pune has great historical tradition and an ideal geographical location. Almost two centuries ago it came on the political map as a place where strong nationalism started taking roots. Pune is located at an altitude of almost 2000 feet above sea level and partially hidden by the Sahyadri mountain ranges. The city of Pune which is described as the "Queen of the Deccan" is a historical city. It came into political prominence as the capital city of the Marathas, a warrior community in Maharashtra during the reign of Shivaji the Great, about 375 years ago. Since then it has evolved itself as a socio-cultural capital of Maharashtra region. It is a cultural icon of Marathi speaking people. Pune became more prominent after the advent of British in this part of the country in the 18th century.
